Cornerstone Baptist Church believes:

  1. The Bible. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life. The Scriptures have been recorded and preserved by the Holy Spirit (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21; Psalm 12:6-7). We believe that the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts which underlie the King James Version (the Masoretic text of the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus of the New Testament) are the preserved words of God. Furthermore, we believe that the King James Version of the Bible is God's preserved word in English and therefore, it shall be the official and only translation of the Holy Scriptures used by this local Church and all of its ministries (Psalm 119:89-90; Matthew 24:35; John 10:35; I Peter 1:23-25).

  2. One Triune God, eternally existing in three persons, namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-eternal in being, co-equal in nature, power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22; Acts 5:3-6; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 John 5:7).

  3. The Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, became Man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary, to reveal God that He might redeem all men from their sin (Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1-3,14,18; 14:9; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:15).

  4. The Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice, and that our justification is made sure by His bodily resurrection from the dead (Isaiah 53:5-6; Matthew 20:28; Luke 24:36-43; John 20:25-28; Romans 4:25; Galatians 3:13; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:11-12; 10:12-14).

  5. The Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest and Representative, He fulfills the ministry of Intercessor and Advocate (Hebrews 4:14-16; 9:24; 1 John 2:1).

  6. The Holy Spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person, that He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and judgment, that He regenerates the sinner by the Word of God, that He permanently indwells the body of each believer, that He seals, enlightens, instructs, and guides every born again person, and that He is the efficient power for godly living, Christian service, and spiritual worship. We believe that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again by the Holy Spirit, and thereby become the children of God (John 3:5-17, 14:16-17, 26, 16:7-15; I Peter 1:23; Ephesians 4:30).

  7. The Holy Spirit is the Divine Teacher who indwells and empowers all believers for Christian life and service, and Who guides believers into all Truth; and, that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit. Some gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as the gift of speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary sign gifts, and never the necessary signs of the filling of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26; 16:12-15; Acts 4:8, 31; Romans 8:23; 1 Corinthians 13:8; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 3:16; 5:18).

  8. That man was divinely created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin the entire human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and that unregenerated man is spiritually dead, and utterly unable by himself to remedy his lost condition (Gen. 1:26-28; 3:1-14; Jeremiah 13:23; Mark 7:21-23; John 3:3-5; 8:42-44; Romans 3:23; 5:12; 7:18).

  9. Salvation is a gift of God brought to man wholly by grace alone and received by repentance and personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of sins, and that apart from Christ there is no possible salvation (Luke 13:3, 5; John 3:16; 6:28-29; 14:6; Acts 4:12; 16:30-31; 20:21; Romans 3:24; 4:4-5; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9).

  10. All the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power, secured in Christ forever, and guaranteed never to perish; and, that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh or a license to sin (John 5:24; 10:27-30; Romans 3:22; 6:1-2, 14-15; 8:16; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 1:3; Philippians 1:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 1 John 3:1-3; 5:10-13).

  11. Every believer possesses two natures, the old and the new nature; and that although the old nature can never be eradicated in this life, provision has been made for victory of the new nature over the old nature through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit and the resurrection of the believer in Christ (Romans 7:15-25; 13:14; 1 John 1:7-9).

  12. All believers should live in such a manner as to glorify their Saviour and Lord, that separation from all forms of religious apostasy and compromise, and all worldly and sinful practices, pleasures, associations and persistently disobedient brethren is commanded of God (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1; Ephesians 5:11; 2 Timothy 1:13; 4:2-5; Matthew 18:15-17; 1 Corinthians 5:9-11; 2 Thessalonians 3:6, 14-15).

  13. The Church. We believe that the church is a local, visible body of believers called out from the world for the purpose of obeying the Great Commission; that they are separated unto Christ; and that it is the pillar and ground of the truth. We believe that the supreme mission of the church in this age is to preach the Gospel to every creature and, in the context of the local church, to disciple those who believe on His name and form them into a local church (I Corinthians 12:12-27; Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Acts 14:21-28; Luke 24:47; 1 Timothy 3:15). We do not believe in the existence of a mystical, invisible body of Christ but instead that each assembly is the body of Christ in that locale (I Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 1:22-23). Furthermore, we believe in the perpetuity of the Lord's churches, i.e. that there have been local churches from the days of Christ until the present who essentially believe what Cornerstone Baptist Church believes; and that such churches will continue until the Lord returns. We believe that once a believer has joined the local church, he or she can only be removed from the rolls of the church by death, church discipline, or transfer of letter to a church of like faith and order.

  14. Ordinances. We believe that the local church has two ordinances and that these ordinances picture the saving works of Jesus Christ. These are, namely, water baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper. While recognizing that water baptism has no saving merit, it is our conviction that after one is saved, baptism is the next step in order to portray to the world that believer's union with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection and with the Lord's local church. We also believe that upon baptism, the believer becomes a member of the local church which is His Body. We believe that Jesus Christ instituted the Lord's Supper to commemorate His death until He comes and that the elements (unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine) symbolically portray the body and blood of Christ. As such, we deny the doctrine of transubstantiation. (Acts 2:41-47; Romans 6:4; I Corinthians 11:23-29, 12:12-27).

  15. The personal existence of Satan, the great adversary of God and His people, who has been judged at the cross and whose final doom is certain; and that Christians are able to resist and overcome Satan and His demons through the blood of the Lamb and the whole armour of God (Ezekiel 28:13-17; Isaiah 14:12-15; John 12:31-32; 16:11; Ephesians 6:12-18; 1 Timothy 3:7; Revelations 12:11; 20:10).

  16. The imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His saints before the Seven-year Tribulation Period, and in His subsequent glorious and visible return to the earth with His saints to establish the millennial kingdom (Daniel 9:24-27; John 14:12; Romans 5:9; 13:11; Acts 1:6-7, 11; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; 5:1-9; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6).

  17. The bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal conscious bliss with the Lord, and the unsaved to everlasting, conscious punishment in the lake of fire “where the worms dieth not and the fire is not quenched” (Daniel 12:1-2; Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-44; John 5:25-29; Revelation 6:9-10; 20:10-15; 21:1-8).

  18. Giving. We believe that this local church shall be supported only by the members’ faithful giving of their tithes, offerings, and sacrificial gifts. The office of the church pastor shall lead the local church in the administration of funds according to biblical stewardship principles (Genesis 14:20; Leviticus 27:30, 32; Malachi 3:10; Matthew 23:23; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 1 Timothy 3:4-5).
