LYE HISTORY

Cornerstone Baptist Church has an active youth ministry by the name CBC LEAGUE OF YOUNG EVANGELISTS (C.B.C L.Y.E.). It is a youth organization within the local church and under the authority of the Pastor. Therefore, it also abides by the same rules, regulations and principles of the local church. It affirms all the biblical doctrines and practices of CBC.

Bro. Lester Raquintan, the youth leader appointed by the Pastor, conceptualized the formation of the league and drafted a constitution, based on the existing church constitution, to govern the body. It was then submitted to Ptr. Jed Raquintan and other youth workers, Ptr. Roland Niar and Sis. Bing Mustera, for approval. In November 19, 2006, the constitution was approved and the league was formally established with the four involved people as founders.

On the 1st Saturday of December 2006, a meeting was called for the young people to introduce for the very first time, the concept of the league. The meeting was attended by 14 young people plus the appointed League Advisers: Ptr. Roland & Sis. Bing, and League Leader: Bro. Lest (Ptr. Jed is the League Director & is the overall in-charge of the ministry), who read and discussed the league constitution to the attendees. This formally opened the league for application, and all the applicants were excited. The day after (Sunday), the league started recruitment. By 11th of February 2007, the pioneer batch Kleema was declared members of the league, with 14 young people on board. By 17th of June 2007, two more young people were added through batch Sisidlan.

As the year of 2009 enters, CBC LYE is on its way to its third year of existence and God has been faithful and gracious to the league. We have lost a few men since 2007, but God is able to replenish because early this quarter, four young people plan to join the league.

LYE VISION

  • We’re aiming to be a St.A.R!
  • Every league member aims to possess the following necessary traits, as young people of Cornerstone Baptist Church:
    • Steadfast,
    • Approved unto God, &
    • Reliable

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – II Tim.2:15

  • Every league member aim to work in various church ministries and set himself as good a example to other young Christians, both believers and unbelievers.

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” – I Tim.4:12

LYE MISSION

Our mission has four related parts:

  • Personal. To be faithful to God and demonstrate the traits of Jesus Christ; to gain wisdom and be fully equipped with the word of God; and to always look pleasing in the sight of the Lord.
  • Ministry. To expand the church by winning more young people to the Lord; to exercise every talent that can be used to glorify Him; and to prepare in becoming future missionary workers.
  • Economic. To raise funds indigenously for league activities; and to faithfully support the local church through tithes & offerings.
  • Social. To foster the spirit of Christian camaraderie; and to initiate ways to improve the quality of life.

LYE PROJECTS

The following are some of our regular projects and activities:

  • Saturday Bible Club. This is a replica of Children Sunday Schools ,only that it is conducted during Saturday afternoons. The league is maintaining classes either in the church or outside, in nearby streets, through its faithful young teachers (Bro. Robin Santiago, Bro. Jacob Tollangao, Sis. Ruth Romero, Sis. Dorothy Antonio, and the youth leader, Bro. Lest). To date, we have three active sites and we intend to revive the other sites and expand by molding more young teachers.
  • Church Camp Canteen. Every church camp, the league has been the official mobile canteen for the attendees. This is a fund raising activity and also a training for the young people in working to raise and keep money. Usually, the proceeds go to the fund for the annual youth camp but it also varies depending on the necessities of the local church.
  • Youth Service. This is conducted every 2pm on Sunday afternoons wherein the youth leader continues to teach the league with the word of God. This also serves as training ground for the young people in the ministry, as they are trained to song lead, pray, read the Bible, and renders special numbers. Usually, relevant issues about the youth in this generation are discussed with the aim to maintain biblical separation and holiness in godly standards.
  • Youth Camp. Every summer, CBC organizes a separate camp only for the young people, and with the guidance of the local Pastor and other invited missionaries. The youth spend three days and two nights at the camp site, which is usually located in the mountainous areas. Through this, most of the city-based young people learn to wake-up early, do some physical exercise, cook by themselves, do assigned chores like cleaning and fetching water, and eat plenty of vegetables while enjoying the fellowship with other young people.
